An overview of osteoporosis diagnosis and the pitfalls of bone densitometry as well as an update on the management of osteoporosis; when to use which therapy in high-risk patients, and the importance of therapy sequence with osteoanabolic agents.

Learning outcomes

  • Interpret bone densitometry results and calculate fracture risk, taking into account possible secondary contributors to low bone density
  • Identify patients at very high risk of fracture for consideration of osteoanabolic therapy as first line therapy
  • Tailor first line osteoporosis treatment to individual patients, taking into account their future fracture risk to optimise sequencing of therapy
