Electronic referrals (eReferrals) will be extended from Dubbo Health Servce to include Orange and Bathurst Health Services for outpatient specialist clinics this July.
The eReferral solution is a NSW Health initiative to improve the referral experience of patients, referrers and clinicians in public outpatient services.
eReferrals is an integrated system that supports GPs, Nurse Practitioners, specialists and other referrers in submitting referrals securely and directly to the required NSW Health specialty service.
From July 2026, a number of specialist clinics at Orange and Bathurst Hospitals plus some district services will move to eReferrals via HealthLink. HealthLink is an integrated system that supports GPs and other referrers submit electronic referrals to the required specialty.

HealthLink integrates with a range of practice management software programs (including Best Practice, Medical Director, Genie, ZedMed and Communicare) and features secure electronic messaging, improving communication between clinicians, referrers, administrative staff and patients.
Users can also benefit from capabilities such as:
- integrated State-wide Referral Criteria (SRC) for relevant specialties,
- pre-population of clinical information into patient referrals,
- field validation and consistency checks,
- conditional visibility,
- intuitive layout,
- track referrals, and
- the ability to save and return to the draft referral later.
Further information and specialist clinic inclusions will be broadcast over the coming weeks along with support for referrers in readiness for eReferral extension for specialist services across the WNSW district.
