  • Understand the role of exudate in the wound healing process.
  • Describe how excessive exudate can impact wound healing.
  • Recognise the visual characteristics and clinical significance of exudate.
  • Provide rationale for selecting the most suitable wound dressing considering exudate management and wound healing goals.

Melinda Brooks, Nurse Practitioner, Credentialled Advanced Wound Practitioner

Melinda has worked in wound management for more than 25 years in a variety of settings from the Victorian Adult Burns Unit, to community nursing, research and lecturing in wound care.

As a Nurse Practitioner in wound management in private practice, Melinda focuses on aged care, community and offers consultancy and education. Co-founding Wounds R Us in 2016, Melinda delivers wound management education to clinicians in Melbourne. Melinda has been actively presenting at state and national conferences and thrives on teaching others about the importance of holistic wound care. Melinda has been integral with her contributions and commitment to Wounds Australia over many years.
