Finding support can be tough, especially in regional communities where men don’t always feel comfortable opening up. The Men’s Table is helping to change that by offering a safe, supportive space for men to talk openly about what’s on their mind.
Helping men talk, connect and feel supported
Supported by funding from the Western NSW Primary Health Network (WNSW PHN), The Men’s Table program offers social opportunities for men to meet up and connect over a meal each month.
A Men’s Table participant living in Western NSW described being hesitant before going along to his first Entrée at the Men’s Table, but after a short time, he is now noticing positive impacts on his mental health.
He highlights feeling less worried, not bottling things up, and carrying less emotional burden each day after going to dinner with the Men’s Table.
Addressing unmet mental health needs in regional communities
Designed for all adult men irrespective of age, race, beliefs, profession, personal backgrounds and orientations, the Men’s Tables are a safe and non-judgmental space where men can talk and listen to each other.
Another participant in Western NSW got involved with his local Men’s Table because he wanted to make a real difference in his community. After noticing men in his community struggling with social isolation and some losing their lives to suicide, he now attends the Men’s Table to offer a listening ear.
He hopes that at the Men’s Table, men can talk to one another before things become too much.
The Men’s Table meet-ups offer a positive alternative to a clinical setting, and can sit alongside professional care, offering a more informal, accessible space for support.
There are currently Men’s Tables in Broken Hill, Dubbo, Orange, Canowindra, Bathurst, Parkes, Coonamble, Eugowra, Mudgee, Coonabarabran & Condobolin.
