A free, walk-in mental health service has opened its doors in Dubbo, increasing access to essential support services in the town.

The service provides a safe and welcoming place for anyone to access free, quality mental health care over extended hours on weekdays and weekends.

Dubbo Medicare Mental Health Centre (MMHC) provides accessible, person-centred mental health support for the local community.

There is no requirement for an appointment or referral – people can walk in and find support based on their needs.

The Western NSW Primary Health Network (WNSW PHN) is partnering with Stride, Wellways and Clarity Health Care in the delivery of these essential services to the community.

WNSW PHN CEO, Brad Porter said that the Dubbo MMHC will provide a range of support for adults facing short and medium-term mental health challenges including peer-led and clinical support.

“As well as immediate support for people in distress, the MMHCs help people to navigate mental health services, with referrals, information, and support for family members or carers.

Stride CEO, Drikus Van der Merwe said that Stride was delighted to expand mental health services in the region after recently opening the Bathurst Medicare Mental Health Centre.

“Alongside our partners Wellways and Clarity Health Care, we look forward to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of the Bathurst and Dubbo communities for years to come,” Mr Van der Merwe said.

Wellways CEO, Laura Collister said the organisation is proud to be part of the service.

“Wellways is an established mental health provider in Western NSW, and we are proud to be working in partnership to increase the range of mental health supports available to local communities” Ms Collister said.
