Proactive Management of COPD and Asthma (Bathurst)
When | Wednesday 7th of June, 2023, 6:30pm - 8:30pm |
Where | Rydges Mount Panorama Bathurst, 1 Conrod Straight Bathurst, NSW 2795 |
COPD
1 in 2 COPD patients hospitalised due to an exacerbation may die within 4 years. The prevention of exacerbations should be a key focus in managing COPD patients.
Frequent exacerbations of COPD can cause poor quality of life and a rapid decline in lung function.
In Australia, COPD is the second leading cause of avoidable hospital admissions and remains the fifth leading cause of death.
Asthma
While 2.7 million Australians are affected by asthma, based on international studies it is estimated that 3-10% of these people have severe asthma. This represents between 52,800 and 176,000 people in Australia.
Research shows that up to 1 in 3 patients with asthma remain uncontrolled despite adherence to stepwise management with ICS/LABA.
This meeting will give you the opportunity to understand the role of single inhaler triple therapy in the management of COPD and asthma.
Speaker:
Associate Professor John Brannan, PhD
Associate Professor John Brannan is the Scientific Director in the Department of Respiratory & Sleep Medicine at John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle where his key focus is running the pulmonary function and cardiopulmonary exercise laboratories. He has a strong interest in investigating mechanism of drug treatments in airway diseases.

- Differential diagnosis of COPD and asthma
- Need for optimising treatment of patients with COPD and asthma currently on ICS/LABA
