People with intellectual disability can experience multiple barriers to effective healthcare which often results in very high rates of emergency department presentation and longer hospital stays. This webinar will explore conditions commonly experienced by people with intellectual disability & how to screen for them; communication strategies to support health literacy; and how to refer to the Western NSW LHD Specialist Intellectual Disability Health Team.

Learning Outcomes
- 1. Discuss the Specialist Intellectual Disability Health Team (SIDHT) and describe the criteria for referral to the team.
- 2. Recognise medical disorders associated with intellectual disability and discuss assessment and screening tools that can be used with people with intellectual disability
- 3. Apply health literacy techniques to support people with intellectual disability to understand health information.
