Western NSW Primary Health Network (WNSW PHN) has launched its Strategic Plan 2026–2030, setting a clear direction for the next four years to improve health and wellbeing across Western and Far West NSW.
Covering one of Australia’s most geographically vast and diverse regions, the Plan recognises the unique challenges faced by rural and remote communities. It outlines how WNSW PHN will continue to lead, support and strengthen person‑centered primary health care that is culturally safe, equitable and sustainable.
The Strategic Plan is grounded in partnership, guided by evidence, and shaped by the voices of community members, clinicians, service providers, and Aboriginal health leaders. It responds to persistent health inequities, workforce pressures, and system complexity, while leaning into opportunities to deliver more connected and locally responsive care.
At the heart of the plan are five strategic priorities that will guide WNSW PHN’s work until 2030:
- Improved Aboriginal health and wellbeing, through strong partnerships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations and a commitment to culturally safe, community‑led approaches.
- Coordinated primary care access, equity and sustainability, ensuring people can access the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
- Support for a strong and sustainable primary health workforce, with a focus on capacity building, wellbeing, recruitment and retention across the region.
- Community‑driven, collaborative commissioning, using place‑based planning and shared decision‑making to address local health needs.
- Effective governance that drives organisational performance, ensuring accountability, transparency, and strong alignment between strategy and outcomes.
The Plan aligns with national priorities, including Australia’s Primary Health Care 10 Year Plan and the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, while maintaining alignment with local needs outlined in WNSW PHN’s Health Needs Assessment.
WNSW PHN Chair Carmen Dwyer said the Strategic Plan provides a shared framework for action across the region.
“This plan sets the direction for how we will work alongside communities and partners to strengthen primary health care across Western and Far West NSW,” Ms Dwyer said.
WNSW PHN CEO, Brad Porter added that the Plan reflects our commitment to equity, access, collaboration, and our responsibility to ensure services are responsive to local needs.
“Through coordination, commissioning, capacity building and compliance, we are committed to shaping a stronger, person-centered health system for our region,” Mr Porter said.
The Strategic Plan 2026–2030 reinforces WNSW PHN’s role within the primary health care system, with a strong emphasis on partnership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
