The service will continue to operate until 20 December 2026. Community members are encouraged to start considering alternative healthcare options before this date, to help ensure a smooth transition.
This closure of the service provides an opportunity for providers to reflect on what the community needs and plan future services.
Alternative healthcare providers in Dubbo
Community members are encouraged to consider the healthcare services they will use after the closure of the Dubbo After Hours GP Services, such as local GP practices and Healthdirect wherever appropriate, to support continuity of care and appropriate use of emergency services.
Community members are encouraged to begin identifying and using alternative services to help ensure a smooth transition.
Options for the Dubbo community:
- Call Healthdirect on 1800 022 222, a free 24-hour health advice line that can help people decide the most appropriate care option
- Call 1800MEDICARE on 1800 633 422
- Local GP clinics, including practices offering extended after-hours appointments and bulk-billing
- Pharmacies, for advice and treatment for minor illness and injuries
- Dubbo Hospital Emergency Department, for urgent or life-threatening medical needs
Supporting a smooth transition
For 15 years, the Dubbo After Hours GP Service has supported the local community with access to after hours care. The WNSW PHN acknowledges the important role the service has played and thanks the entire team at Marathon Health for their service to the Dubbo community.
We are working closely with Marathon Health and other stakeholders to ensure clear information is shared about available after-hours care options leading up to the closure date.
This change only affects the Dubbo After Hours GP Service. All other Marathon Health clinics and services will continue to operate as normal.
