EXPRESSION OF INTEREST: GP Training Decisions and Retention in Western and Far West NSW

Western NSW Primary Health Network (WNSW PHN), in partnership with Charles Sturt University School of Rural Medicine, is conducting qualitative research to explore how General Practice registrars choose where to study and train, and the factors that influence whether they remain in or leave Western and Far West NSW.

The aim of this project is to gain an understanding of registrars’ experiences, motivations and decision-making processes around training and ongoing practice in rural and remote communities. Insights gathered will help inform future workforce planning and support strategies to strengthen GP recruitment and retention across the region.

Researchers are seeking current GP registrars training in Western or Far West NSW, as well as registrars who have previously trained in the region but since relocated, to participate in interviews of approximately 30–60 minutes. Participants will be reimbursed for their time.
