Co-delivered by IFIC Australia and IFIC Ireland, this 2-part webinar explores how to make trust a deliberate part of care delivery, service design and system change. Webinar 1 uses lived experience and research in MND care to examine what trust means, why it matters and what builds or erodes it. Webinar 2 broadens the lens to consider the role of trust in health equity, implementation, policy and practice, and how trust can be more deliberately supported within care and health systems.
These webinars follow a clear pathway from understanding trust to operationalising it. Research will provide the framework, lived experience will show how trust is felt and tested, and clinical and system perspectives will identify what can be changed in practice. Case scenarios and trust recipes will help participants translate these lessons into their own care settings.
By the end of the two webinars, participants will be able to:
- Recognise where trust is being built or eroded across a person’s care journey.
- Apply practical trust-building behaviours in conversations, decisions, handovers and transitions.
- Strengthen continuity and coordination through trusted relationships and trust-companion roles.
- Develop a trust recipe that responds to the changing needs of a person, family or care situation.
Webinar 1. Understanding Trust in Integrated Care Through the Lived Experiences of MND

Using motor neurone disease as the central case, this webinar will explore trust in a situation where needs can change rapidly, time is precious, and care must be coordinated across multiple professionals and services. Participants will examine how trust can be built quickly enough to support timely decisions, changing needs and continued engagement with care.
Participants will explore:
- what trust means within a care relationship;
- what helps build, test or erode trust in professionals and services;
- how trust is experienced when needs are changing quickly;
- how trust influences confidence, communication and engagement with care.
Webinar 2 – Building Trust into Care and Health Systems

Using the experiences of children with medical complexity and their families, this webinar will explore how trust develops over time through continuity, relationships and repeated interactions with services. It will provide practical guidance for developing trust companions: consistent people who connect care across services and provide continuity throughout the care journey. The webinar will examine how trust can be supported through roles, team practices, service design and wider system change. It will also consider what services can do when trust has been damaged and how they can create the conditions for trust to be rebuilt.
Participants will explore how to:
- assign clear responsibility for building and maintaining trust;
- create continuity across teams, services and transitions;
- design roles, processes and models of care that support trusting relationships;
- identify and change system practices that undermine trust, including how trust can be repaired when it is lost.
