Presenters
Dr Victor Carey
Public Health Physician, WNSW Local Health District, Public Health Unit
Dr Anny Yuanfei Huang
Senior Medical Officer, GP and Public Health Physician,
National Centre for Immunisation Research & Surveillance
Dr Carey’s presentation will explore the importance of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for rabies and Australian bat lyssavirus. As GPs may encounter patients following overseas animal bites in rabies-endemic regions or local bat exposures, staying up to date with current PEP recommendations is essential to support timely assessment, early intervention and appropriate management to prevent disease progression.
Dr Huang’s session will provide a practical approach to discussing vaccination in the pre-travel consultation, highlighting key considerations related to the traveller, destination and planned activities. The session will also explore common travel vaccine recommendations to support GPs in providing personalised and evidenced-based travel vaccination advice.
