Amanda’s story is a testament to the power of community, support, and courage.

Meet Amanda, a 37-year-old woman who has faced significant challenges. Living with anxiety, PTSD, and legal blindness, Amanda has encountered obstacles that many of us might find daunting. Yet Amanda’s story is one of resilience and courage, thanks to the support and resources she has embraced along the way.

Amanda’s journey reached a turning point when she was introduced to the Commonwealth Psychosocial Support (CPS) Program. This program has been instrumental in helping her navigate the complex human services system, enabling her to access the Disability Support Pension (DSP) and explore her eligibility for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

With the valuable support from the CPS Program, Amanda has been able to take significant strides towards independence. The CPS program linked her with Vision Australia, providing her with specialised support and aids that have empowered her to engage more fully with her community. This newfound confidence has encouraged Amanda to step outside her comfort zone, reconnect with friends, and forge meaningful social connections within her local area.

Amanda’s recovery coach has played a pivotal role in this transformation, offering her opportunities to build relationships and feel like a valued member of the community. With ongoing support from Vision Australia, Amanda now receives assistance at home and has gathered the necessary evidence to access the NDIS. Her gratitude for these resources is immense, and she expresses a renewed sense of self-worth and belonging.

Psychosocial support services, like the one Amanda benefits from, are vital in facilitating recovery for people experiencing mental illness. These services empower individuals to manage daily activities, rebuild social connections, and participate in education and employment. Designed for those with severe mental health illnesses, the program provides essential non-clinical, community-based support.

The Commonwealth Psychosocial Support Program is a life raft for many like Amanda. It exemplifies how targeted support can transform lives, fostering resilience and enabling individuals to achieve their fullest potential.
