 This session will provide updates from local specialists in orthopaedics, general surgery and ophthalmology, supporting GPs to manage common presentations encountered in primary care. Topics include paediatric eye conditions, musculoskeletal concerns requiring orthopaedic assessment, and general surgical presentations that may benefit from specialist intervention. Local referral pathways and multidisciplinary services will also be highlighted to support timely access to specialist care and coordinated patient management.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply an evidence-based approach to the investigation and management of hip and knee osteoarthritis, including appropriate use of non-operative and operative treatment options.
  2. Describe contemporary advances in hip and knee arthroplasty and identify patients who may benefit from referral for surgical assessment.
  3. Apply evidence-based assessment and initial management strategies for children presenting with eye and vision concerns in primary care.
  4. Identify common paediatric eye conditions and clinical red flags that require urgent ophthalmology referral.
  5. Identify common surgical presentations and indications for timely specialist referral.
