Join us for a 90-minute interactive session designed for primary healthcare professionals working across the diverse communities of Western & Far West NSW. Introduction to Cultural Capability builds the knowledge, practical skills, and self-awareness needed to communicate effectively across cultures, strengthen engagement with patients, families, and communities, and support culturally safe, person-centred care in regional, rural, and remote settings.

Through real-world examples, group discussion, and reflective activities, participants will explore:

  • How culture shapes communication, expectations, and interactions in healthcare and professional settings
  • Practical strategies for respectful, effective cross-cultural communication with patients, colleagues, and communities
  • Approaches to delivering inclusive, culturally responsive services that improve engagement, access, and trust for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds

Topics include:

  • The Case for Cultural Capability
  • Understanding Culture and Cultural Perspectives
  • Recognising Your Own Cultural Lens
  • Cultural Dimensions and Their Influence on Behaviour
  • Practical Tools for Cross-Cultural Communication

This session supports culturally safe practice, stronger community engagement, and more inclusive service delivery across the diverse health settings of Western NSW.

A certificate of attendance will be issued upon completion.
