The draft Advice on the National Suicide Prevention Strategy is open for public consultation

The draft Advice on the National Suicide Prevention Strategy has been developed by the National Suicide Prevention Office. It brings together first-hand evidence provided by people with lived and living experience of suicide, the latest research, and recommendations from existing inquiries and reports to lay out a path that will deliver a reduction in the number of lives lost to suicide nationally.

It has been designed to be used by governments, service providers and communities to create an effective comprehensive suicide prevention system that:

  • prevents people from reaching suicidal distress
  • ensures that supports are accessible, compassionate and effective, and
  • is sustained by collective effort from governments, sectors beyond health, service providers and communities.

The team at the NSPO is hoping to hear from a broad range of people with diverse views to strengthen the Advice on the Strategy so they can provide governments with the strongest and most effective advice possible.

Feedback is welcome from individuals, organisations and community. Should community members wish to provide collective feedback, a community workshop pack that may be helpful to guide the process has been developed and is available for download at the consultation link below.

We can all contribute to shaping the future of suicide prevention in Australia.
