Far West Desktop Scenario | COVID-19 Outbreak Planning in Aged Care
When | Broken Hill | Monday, 9 November 2020 | 6.30pm to 8.00pm (ACDT) |
Where | Online Webinar |
It is recognised that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a severe impact on residents in Aged Care Facilities. Symptoms range from a mild cough to pneumonia, with some people recovering well whilst others require hospitalisation or a palliative approach to care. There is evidence that the virus spreads rapidly from person to person and deterioration can be particularly rapid in elderly patients in residential aged care. Aged Care Facilities are currently developing their Outbreak Management Plans. This plan is important as it provides a collaborative approach and understanding of outbreak action, pathways of care, patient management across primary and secondary health care teams and role clarity around the Public Health Response.
This localised, interactive and scenario-based session will provide participants with an opportunity to work through pandemic preparedness plans, for the management of COVID-19 in an aged care setting, together. It is not intended to be prescriptive, but rather an opportunity to explore and share issues, challenges and response pathways.
This session will cover the following learning outcomes:
- Identify key stakeholders, roles, responses and management in an aged care COVID outbreak
- Recognise the localised care pathways for a resident or staff member COVID case
- Explore the complexities of COVID-19 and the importance of a team approach to care
