This event will showcase the Western NSW LHD Older People’s Suicide Prevention Pathway Project and provide presentations and case-study discussion on current knowledge and practice related to working with older people experiencing suicidal crisis and support them, their families, carers and networks.

Local Mental Health Service Showcases

WNSW LHD Mental Health Services and WNSW PHN, along with key partners, will showcase a range of mental health services available in the region.

Learning outcomes:

  • Promote awareness of the Older People's Suicide Prevention Pathway in Western NSW

  • Develop knowledge of current evidence-based practice in relation to suicide prevention including early recognition and referral for intervention

  • Build an understanding of the relationship between suicidality and mental health conditions, such as depression, in older people

  • Apply practical elements of the pathway including the Suicide Risk Screening Tool (ASQ) and the Safety Plan (adapted from Stanley & Brown)

  • Build knowledge of services and supports that an older person experiencing suicidal crisis, their family, carers and support networks, can access
